CIIT COLLEGE MASS PROMOTION

CIIT COLLEGE MASS PROMOTION
The Issue
In the light of the recent Public Health hazard which is a new strain of the Corona Virus sweeping throughout the globe, the Philippine government has implemented strict Quarantine protocols. Adequately named as the "Enhanced Community Quarantine" or "ECQ". It also meant the indefinite suspension of Classes throughout the country. Including those of the College Department.
As an alternative to normal classes that are now cancelled, Our college had announced the implementation of Online Classes through the use of Canvas Conference. Our college implemented this online system although It proved to be flawed. It was no question that a high number of students have struggled to adjust to online learning.
This is due to financial constraints, mental health issues, and unstable internet connectivity and resources during the Luzon-wide lock-down that began on March 17, and had been extended until April 30. We can’t keep extending the semester hoping to cover lost ground. We're dealing with a pandemic, one which will probably have several waves afterwards, but the threat of serious infections will certainly continue well into next year. The lockdown has wreaked havoc on people’s livelihoods and savings.
We urge the the highest decision-making body in our college, to truly listen to the collective outcry of the college population, made clear in the recent comments in Facebook. We stand firm that the immediate ending of the semester and mass promotion are still the most humane and inclusive responses to the terrible situation we find ourselves in.
