Allow Belmont Abbey college students the option to live off campus

Allow Belmont Abbey college students the option to live off campus
The Issue
Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, NC has essentially banned all off campus housing except for the very few and somewhat strange reasons of
-Being married, live with a legal guardian within 50 miles, or be 22 by the add/drop date in the fall.
even under these circumstances you must apply and be approved to live off campus.
Any normal college/ university allows students to live off campus in apartments or houses nearby after their freshman year. I do understand we are a small catholic college however, why should we be forced to live in buildings that are covered in mold and most likely not up to safety standards. When you are 19+ majority of students really do not want to have to share a small room and then share a filthy bathroom with 6 other individuals. Majority of us, especially at BAC do NOT want to pay for a meal plan for a cafeteria that is required when you live on campus. With living off campus we would not be having to pay for a meal plan that people hardly use because majority of the food served is probably a health violation.
Yes, we do have 2 buildings (one male one female) that are small apartment style for 2 individuals with separate bedrooms, a bathroom for only the 2 people, and a small "living room". With the ban of off campus housing except for those few and somewhat odd reasons we now have a giant surge of people being forced to stay on campus when we really don't have enough room for it. We also have run down, old apartments you can live in on campus that are frankly disgusting. Even with a new dorm under construction housing is still an issue. The new dorm was meant to be done by fall of 2020 and as that is most likely not going to happen where are all the students supposed to be living in there going to stay?
I shouldn't even have to argue why we shouldn't be forced to live somewhere that we don't want to.
