In Newfoundland people who require accesible transportation to medical appts and are outside the metro area, are not able to avail of this service  and have the cost covered ,due to criteria set by the system here.  I live in Conception Bay South which is 15 mins from St. John's, and there is no affordable accessible transportation for people like my special needs brother Colin Bradley. Our communtiy  has 27 thousand residents and  there are no accessible taxis in our communtiy!   I have been full time advocating for my brother for almost 1O years  with no luck. I have reached out to all politicians and levels of govt for help with this issue and  there has been no change with this.  The criteria has a stipulation of 30kms away from medical institutions. With that being said, many are left with no options.  A lot of individuals like,  my brother are close (24.5 kms in our case)  and are denied!  This is unfair and it has gone on for far too long!!! Being forced to pay $175-$250 for a taxi or bus, just isnt possible  for many and is causing them to go without appts or pay out of a limited income. We all know how the cost of living has skyrocketed so this is a huge expense to those below the threshold.  I am pleading for your help to make our government listen and remove the 30kms criteria so that ALL in need of this service, can access it. If a person is outside the metro area and cut off, they need this to be removed so they can have this huge cost covered by the system!  Everyone is important and should be treated with dignity!  Please help me so I can proceed with this petition and hopefully we can change this! 🙏♥️
