Colgate Climate Strike: Demands for Change

Colgate Climate Strike: Demands for Change
The Issue
Friday (September 20th), is the date of the global climate strike. Students and workers around the world are organizing to strike and demand further climate action from the institutions they are a part of.
We, as members of the Colgate community, care deeply about the future of our planet and its people, and we know that Colgate needs to take more action to be a responsible institution of higher education. We realize that we are in a climate emergency, and that true action starts in our own communities.
in the spirit of the Global Climate Strike and to improve the practice of sustainability at Colgate University, we demand the following list of actions from our university by 2025:
- effective immediately, design and construct energy and carbon-neutral buildings for all new construction on campus
- achieve 100% renewable energy (eliminate natural gas use on campus)
- make the switch to all-electric vehicles for our campus fleet and Seven Oaks golf carts
- become a plastic-free campus
- implement a university-wide composting program
- eliminate synthetic pesticide and fertilizer use on campus
On Friday, we will be striking on the Academic Quad from 11:10am-12:00pm. This petition is a call to action to all members of the Colgate community (students, faculty, and staff) to attend and make sure their voices are heard.
Please sign to support these demands and communicate to the Colgate administration that you are concerned about the state of our climate. Our voices matter, and as the youth of this country, it is our job to take our futures into our own hands.
Hope to see you there on Friday.
