All over the world palm oil is being falsely labelled or worse, not even labelled at all. and with the amount of people who try not to use this substance, people are blindly consuming or using this terrible product. Though the substance isn't actually bad for you, the real threat is the way its being harvested. Over 270,000 square kilometres of habitat for animals like the orangutan, are being destroyed for palm oil plantations, and this isn't a small-scale operation, this is deforestation at a giant level.

If we don’t start labelling palm oil, the amount of people unknowingly buying palm oil will increase, speeding up the deforestation process and eventually making animals like the beloved orangutan, critically endangered. Or worse; extinct.

So every time you don’t check a product for its contents, you could be contributing to the destruction of more land and orangutan habitat. Palm oil is in around 50% of supermarket products, making its dangerously easy for people to buy it without noticing.

However, there is a hopeful action - Certification programmes such as the International Palm Oil Free Certification Trademark and Accreditation Programme are programmes that are approved to certify products by using a sticker. This is used in 12 countries with applications waiting if 5. The Orangutan Alliance is a similar programme.

Of most concern we could be the cause of this, without getting our government to partner with a labelling programme, we are contributing to a mass extinctions of loved and well-know animals in Indonesia. So lets help the orangutans, and contribute to the label of palm oil, and making the business shut down for good.
