Coles and Woolworths need to provide an alternative to REDcycle program
Why this petition matters

This week the REDcycle soft plastic recycling program run through supermarket giants Coles and Woolworths was put on hold, saying they can no longer keep up with the volume of soft plastics being returned to the stores.
Since 2011 REDcycle has collected 5.4 billion pieces of plastic, saving them from landfill, beaches and waterways. Each year the company reported to have collected approximately 7000 tonnes of soft plastics.
Without a similar solution, this soft plastic is going to go straight to landfill and end up flying around, suffocating animals and getting into our waterways once again.
As a mother of a young son the thought of this terrifies me.
Coles and Woolworths are major contributors and also have the power to solve this problem. If they can’t find a similar solution or come together and invest in REDcycle to help extend it’s processing ability, we need to hold them accountable and insist that they find and invest in biodegradable forms of packaging, as well as expect the brands that they stock to do the same.
If we can bring about this change we can make sure that our babies, and their babies get to enjoy the same beautiful country that we have been so blessed to inhabit.
