Coles and Woolies: help tired and frustrated mums with toddlers - get lollies and chocolates away from the registers!!

The issue

For the sanity of parents and the health of our kids - keep lollies and chocolates in designated isles only! As a frustrated young mum these create more hassle and pain than they are worth. I am a mum of 2 little ones and can't go to the supermarket with my 3 yr old because it's too stressful when we reach the checkout!

I am trying to teach my 3 year old daughter the importance of eating a balanced diet, where sweets are only a ‘sometimes’ food. Having lollies at registers (and every available vantage point I might add) is more than a little frustrating - it’s counterproductive.

When I want to buy a kinder surprise or a block of chocolate I know where to find them. We don't need these items at children's eye level all over our major supermarkets. Have you seen that mum or dad, or worse BEEN that mum or dad arguing/reasoning/ignoring a toddler in the supermarket? It's painful! It's embarrassing! Not only are these treats bad for us and our kids it goes against what we as parents and a community are trying to teach our children.

I'm no fool, I know people buy these items and I know you make money off them. But you have big expensive marketing teams - surely between them you can come up with something that makes you just as much money that's NOT contributing to Australia’s growing obesity epedemic.

I'm sure every parent will be behind this simple change. Here are some of my suggestions (I don't have a marketing degree and currently have a 3 yr old screaming at me to put Turbo on the TV, so please forgive the following) - put items near registers that people always forgetting to grab, eg. batteries OR healthy snacks for kids.

Please SIGN & SHARE my petition to Coles & Woolies: remove lollies and chocolate from the registers. NO MORE TANTRUMS :) and healthier kids of course.
