Please build a dog park in Reservoir Park

The Issue

Nashville, TN – Reservoir Park

THE VISION
It’s time to build a dog park in Reservoir Park.

Not just any dog park, either. We are going to build the best dog park Nashville has ever seen.

We’re going to set aside 7 tree covered acres of hillside for dogs to run and jump off leash.

We’ll put trails for dogs and humans to run on.

We’ll build a reservoir shaped dog swimming pool for hot summer days.

Yes of course we’ll build two agility courses for big and small dogs alike.

Water fountains for dogs and humans- check.

Benches for sitting? Bags for poop? Cans for trash? yes, yes, yes

And to top it off- a quiet, peaceful hill for senior dogs to relax on.

THE REALITY
Today, Reservoir Park is roughly 30% awesome- people are always using the playground, basketball, and tennis courts. But the other 70% of the park is neglected and sad. It is a huge, ambiguous terraced green space split by disconnected paths to nowhere. A few picnic shelters dot the hill, full of broken glass. Other than the name, nothing in the park informs visitors about the function or history of the reservoir above. The park is mostly empty of people even on the nicest days, even though it is walkable to Edgehill, Wedgewood-Houston, Waverly Belmont, and Woodland in Waverly.

Reservoir Park wasn’t always this way. It used to be a park that people loved, a neighborhood asset with a community center and summer movies in the park. Now it is a park that people drive by without giving a second thought.

Reservoir park needs a reason for people to love it again.
Nashville’s best dog park is that reason!
