The powers that be want to remove Capt Mervyn Jones from Rossett SAVE MY HUSBAND This is Mrs Marlene Jones, the wife of Mervyn Jones, also known as Capt Mervyn Jones of the Rossett Army Cadet Platoon. I have come on to his Facebook page to let you know how disgusted I am with Col AV Jones and his plans to try and remove my husband Mervyn, as platoon commander of Rossett. This is a platoon he has served unselfishly for the past 34 years of his life. He has been platoon commander for 29 of those years and in my opinion has given his all to the youth and community of Rossett, Llay, Gresford, Penyffordd,Marford, Acton and the Wrexham area in general. I am not subject to ACF or any other rules apart from those I agreed to when I married my husband, so to Col AV Jones I say to you, YOU ARE NOT ON! Mervyn, like most other ACF Volunteers gives up his time and that of our family in support of all the young people in this area who wish to join the cadets. I am outranged by you Col AV Jones for having the nerve to even approach this subject. My husband has helped many of you here on Facebook and beyond over many years. He has taken you to the USA, Canada, France, Germany and Northern Ireland. He has worked in connection with Nightingale Hospice, Hope House Hospice, Tickled Pink, Children in Need, Save the Children, Help for Heroes, Poppy Appeal, Wrexham Hospital, Doctor Bernadoes Homes, The Wrexham Mayors Charity, ASDA Charities to name just a few of the local and national charities he and you the cadets past and present have worked to help. He does not wish to leave Rossett and has informed the Commandant, Col AV Jones that if he has a problem with him being a Captain, a rank I know he deserves for all his work, he is even willing to revert back to a Lt. To be told you have spent too long in the platoon and if you don't move and take up a new roll as D of E officer you will be placed in Brigade Pool and have no part to play in Cadets appart from the roll of Sports Officer, again a roll he has held in conjuction with his platoon commander roll for the past 9 years, is totally outrageous. The final straw that upsets me more than anything else is that back in 2005 Mervyn set up the visits to the Somme France and has taken cadets there every year since. In total some £110,000.00 has been raised by Mervyn and the cadets to get the cadets there to commemorate those brave men from the first world war who gave their lives at the Battle of the Somme on July 1st 1916. Mervyn has been informed by Col AV Jones that after 10 years of hard work taking cadets to the Somme to learn about the battle and the men who fought and died there, that all his plans for 2016 and the 100th Battle of the Somme Commemoration in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen, The President of France, VVIP's and VIP's, is to be handed over to other members of the Region to run the 2016 Visit and he is to have no part to play in it after all his years of taking and arranging these visits without any one from HQ wanting to get involved that is until now when they know how historical such a visit will be and the cadets from Rossett and Albuhera Company being the only ones on the Somme, what a scoop and all of Mervyns hard work to get them to this point. WHAT CAN YOU DO TO SUPPORT MY HUSBAND Firstly Mervyn cannot comment on any of this just incase they accuse him of not being in line with cadet policy etc but I can as his wife. He has not in any way instructed me to write this as he is to proud of the cadets and does not wish to bring any bad publicity on them or Rossett, however is he just to go away and forget the past 34 years? Will you who know him past and present let him just walk away when he wants to continue until his retirement? Will you just stand by and let a man who has never run a cadet platoon and only ever visited Rossett just once in 6 years,namely Col AV Jones, get his own way?
