The Issue

Coby lost his life in an automobile accident involving an impaired driver. Coby was a son, brother, grandson, friend, fiancé and a soon-to-be father. Coby’s fiancé, Maddi went into labor only 33 days after Coby’s passing. Krue Nicholas Scott Davilla was born April 7th! He is a happy healthy baby, but he is also fatherless due to someone else’s actions to drive under the influence.

At only 21 years old, Coby was pulled away from a life that promised joy and fulfillment. Tragically, his case is just one among many. In Texas, victims like Coby wait over six months for the official toxicology reports from Texas DPS Crime Lab to confirm if an impaired driver was indeed responsible. This delayed process is not just an administrative inconvenience, but it compounds the anguish and uncertainty for the victim's families waiting for justice to be served. Delays also hinder timely legal proceedings and accountability. There is an urgent need to reduce this timeline significantly. Therefore, we ask for resilience and reform in the current procedures to ensure that all traffic fatality cases involving a suspected impaired driver are treated as a priority and expedited. We cannot bring back those we have lost, but we can ensure their rights are respected and justice is made swiftly. Please, consider the emotional toll on the families and support the change. Sign this petition for a much-needed reform in Texas DPS Crime Lab's toxicology response time.
