Reinstate Grant Carboni as the CK McClatchy XC and TF Coach

Reinstate Grant Carboni as the CK McClatchy XC and TF Coach

The Issue

For the past 15 years, Grant Carboni devoted countless hours, time and energy into the Track & Field (TF) and Cross Country (XC) programs at CK McClatchy (CKM) High School. He created an environment where athletes have success while achieving personal and team goals. He has seen a generation of athletes mature, grow, and succeed at McClatchy High. For the last 3 years, he has helped middle school athletes from 8 schools – Sutter Middle, California Middle, David Lubin Elementary, Hollywood Park Elementary, Leonardo DaVinci, Phoebe Hearst Elementary, and Sutterville Elementary - develop their running skills.

On Wednesday, June 10, 2015, he was abruptly informed that he is no longer the CKM TF and XC Coach. No reason was given. This is very unexpected considering his resume:

  • Worked 15 years as the CKM XC and TF Coach
  • Won 10 Consecutive Metro League Cross Country Titles
  • Won Multiple Metro League Track & Field Titles
  • Established nonprofit organizations for CKM Track & Field and Cross Country needs
  • Raised more than $200,000 for training and competition  equipment, team uniforms,  and facility improvements
  • Established the Mighty Lions Running Team, open to all SCUSD Middle School students at no charge
  • Volunteered his own time, energy and funds to coach the Mighty Lions Running Team, a program that supports 8+ schools and up to 40 middle school athletes from June to October

Grant Carboni is a respected coach and accomplished athlete. He makes his love of running infectious for every student athlete that he interacts with. He devotes all of his free time helping kids to become the best athletes that they can. He makes a difference in every kid on his team, and teaches them to build their self-confidence through hard work and dedication.

Mr. Carboni encouraged my child to try a different sport and challenge herself on new opportunities. He is the reason that my child decided to try Cross Country after playing soccer for 7 years. My child enjoys Cross Country so much that she joined her school's Track team. She joins many students that have developed a love for competition running solely because of Mr. Carboni. He impacts many lives in the Sacramento region and it will be a huge loss to the community if he does not continue as the CKM TF and XC Coach and Mighty Lions Coach.

Responded
Please reinstate Coach Carboni as the CK McClatchy XC and Track and Field Coach, not only for future summer programs but also reconsider any future considerations to minimize his capacity to serve the school and althletes as a coach and mentor to so many in the Sacramento Area. Many sports and after school programs are already reduced or compromised. Please don't let his programs be another casualty of the state of the school system. _ Vickie
