American Sign Language (ASL) has over 500,000 users throughout the United States—enough to make signing one of America’s top 5 languages. Despite this, the deaf community is forced to rely on closed captioning for American news and television. Unfortunately, closed captioning is not always a seamless service, as missing phrases or incorrect spelling can cloud the message being sent to viewers. Additionally, not every American television channel is required to provide closed captioning for viewers. This leads to challenges for American Sign Language users to fully comprehend the messages being presented on screen.

• The Mandatory Implementation of American Sign Language For All National & Local News Outlets

• Mandatory Closed Captioning For Every Television Station
