Close Prairie Harm Reduction

The Issue

Prairie Harm Reduction, located in Saskatoon, is an organization that, from the outside, seems to aim for safety and support within the community. However, my personal observations lead me to believe that it, unfortunately, causes more harm than good.

The primary intention of harm reduction strategies is to minimize negative health outcomes rather than focusing solely on the prevention of drug use itself. While this approach might sound benevolent, in practice at Prairie Harm Reduction, it has serious shortcomings. There are growing concerns among residents about the increase in drug-related incidents, disturbances, and a general sense of insecurity in neighborhoods surrounding the facility.

Community members and local businesses are witnessing a rise in crime. The negative impact on the community cannot be overlooked, and it has left many feeling unsafe and unheard.

Evidence of these disturbances is often brushed aside, but a walk around the community will reveal the stark reality. Interaction with neighbors showcases a shared sentiment of anxiety and frustration due to the facility's presence. We see an increasing number of police reports and emergency medical interventions required in the vicinity, which challenge the notion of harm reduction truly contributing to community well-being.

The intention of such facilities should indeed be to support and create safe environments; however, when they inadvertently cultivate fear and instability, it's crucial to reassess their effectiveness and alternative solutions. There are calls for comprehensive evaluations and accountability to ensure measures bring about positive change rather than exacerbate existing issues.

We're not opposed to finding ways to help individuals with addictions, but solutions should align with fostering safety and harmony within the entire community. Addressing addiction is complex, but it should never compromise public safety or quality of life.

Please join me in signing this petition to urge local authorities to reconsider the operation of Prairie Harm Reduction. Together, we can advocate for strategies that benefit both individuals who need assistance and the wider community surrounding them.
