Close Jack's Corner Pub

Close Jack's Corner Pub
The Issue
Jack's Corner Pub needs to be closed permanently.
*** I have already reached out to the Columbus City Attorney, Zach Klein asking him for advice in this process. I will send this petition to the City Council of Columbus and the Ohio State Division of Liquor Control in an attempt to get this bar permanently closed. ***
I was really hoping that I'd never have to do this again--create another petition to close this bar. However, in light of last night's shooting and resulting homicide, I'm left with no choice. I cannot stay silent. WE cannot stay silent. We as a community must unite and take action to end this uncontrollable gun violence that has repeatedly wreaked havoc on the So Hud and surrounding communities. On Friday, July 28th at around 2:00 A.M. Nasier Reed, 23, was brutally shot and murdered right outside Jack's Corner Pub. What started out as a physical altercation at Jack's quickly transgressed into a hostile shooting tragically taking Nasier Reed's life. Sadly enough, this has been one of many shootings that has happened at Jack's in recent years. Moreover, after talking to a few other residents who have lived in the neighborhood for more than 30 years, they too have witnessed countless acts of violence coming from Jack's ever since they settled in the neighborhood. Reed isn't even the only one who has been killed at Jack's either.
In my last petition I created to get Jack's closed for good, which I wrote immediately after I witnessed patrons from Jack's engaging in a gunfight in the streets involving 25-30 shots with family homes in direct line of fire, I wrote the following:
"It's only a matter of time before someone either directly or indirectly gets shot and seriously injured or killed by one of these future altercations."
What we then all feared the most has now become a reality. The Reed family is now without a son. We can never have this happen again.
Jack's must be permanently closed IMMEDIATELY. One murder is too many. We as a community cannot be subjected to this unruly, reckless violence. If Jack's remains open, one thing is for certain: there will be more shootings, and more people will get severely injured or die. It's indisputable. For years and years, Jack's has been a direct threat to the peace and safety of the neighborhood.
If you care about ensuring the safety of you and your neighbors, then please consider signing this petition. We can NOT continue to live with this violence in our community. We can NOT afford to wait any longer. This bar needs to be closed A.S.A.P.
So why is this Jack's Corner Pub's fault?
In response to my first petition, the bar installed security cameras and began closing at 1 A.M. instead of 2:30 A.M. After observing the bar's cooperation, I decided to postpone any efforts in closing it down. In all honesty, the security measures were effective in reducing the violence. They abated the violence, but only temporarily. Over time it slowly crept back in. After a year we were pretty much back to where we started. At an establishment where there have been multiple past shootings, I think there should be multiple security guards on duty. They have never once hired security guards. The security guards could provide many benefits to the bar. Firstly, they would be able to pat people down and prevent them from carrying weapons onto the premises. They could also prevent physical altercations from getting out of hand. They could remove dangerous and intoxicated patrons from the bar before they get into fights with other patrons. As I've witnessed over the years, most fights at Jack's begin inside and then they go outside to start throwing punches or shoot guns at each other. With security guards present they could potentially end the skirmishes before the escalate into something much worse.
At this moment, Jack's has already had plenty of chances. As I've mentioned previously, one murder is too many. We cannot have another family losing a loved one. It must end now.
