As a resident frustrated by the hazardous ice covering my own sidewalk, I can hardly forget the urgent peril posed to our area's students. There is ice everywhere, and kids cannot get to school safely as the roads aren’t plowed, and sidewalks are layers of ice. This glaring issue is not only confining individuals in their own homes, but it is also placing our students in grave danger with approximately 45,000 bus stops in deplorable, unsafe conditions. Students cannot witness educational progress when threatened with such treacherous commuting conditions– a single school day serving only 4 hours will contribute little in the grand scheme of their education. So, I vehemently urge our local government, schools, and general community to recognize this imminent threat and act urgently to prioritize the safety of students and their right to uninterrupted education. A delay in the response, or worse, inaction, could lead to avoidable accidents and lost education time. The time for action is now - let's protect our children and guarantee them the safe passage to education they deserve.
