Yesterday, we experienced a terrifying near-miss accident that echoes a growing concern for many in our community. As we were driving on Highway 61, an 18-wheeler slowly crossed over the highway from W, forcing us to slam our brakes to avoid a collision. In that heart-stopping moment, another 18-wheeler nearly rear-ended us while an F150 truck beside us veered off the highway. This incident is not isolated; it involved a total of four cars and two 18-wheelers, highlighting the critical safety risk that persists at this location.

The intersections at North Point Prairie Road and Highway W onto Highway 61 are notorious for their danger. With Lincoln County being the fastest-growing county in Missouri, Highway 61 is a crucial commuter route heavily traveled daily. Unfortunately, these cross over intersections are constant sites of close calls, accidents, and even fatalities. Allowing 18-wheelers and other traffic to cross over the highway at these points is jeopardizing the safety of countless drivers each day.

Statistics support what so many of us have personally witnessed. Highway 61 has become a perilous stretch, exacerbated by the increased commuter traffic and the presence of these hazardous intersections.
