Clinton is starting to make progress but still has a way to go…
The Issue
ℹ️August 6, 2026 (PM)
BC Wildfire Service crews continue making progress around Clinton, extinguishing hotspots, strengthening control lines and reducing fuels that could reignite.
Work has also begun around the water treatment plant, including danger tree removal and initial water system assessments.
Re-entry planning continues with partners as crews work toward restoring critical services and ensuring conditions are safe for residents to return home.
The evacuation order for the Village of Clinton remains in place.
Stay tuned for further updates through official Village channels.

An initial 100 Mexican firefighters arrived in the province on Sunday. BC. Wildfire officials said they were deployed to the Cariboo Fire Centre to help fight the wildfires in and around the Village of Clinton. Another 200 firefighters from Mexico arrived today.Additional specialized support from Australia, New Zealand, and other Canadian provinces will bring that total number of 600 additional firefighters to tackle the fires throughout the province.
There is still ways for the Province to tap into Federal funds for assistance.. The fight is not over in BC as fires continue to rage and new ones seem to start daily. Highways remain closed, people remain evacuated and the reality is many people have lost their homes and livelihood. There has been some progress made with resolving or “holding” fires. There is no doubt that this is not over.
Thank you for every single person who signed and supported this petition. I think the attention of calls for a State of Emergency has definitely improved the Provincial Government’s communication and it has shown the Government that the Province is watching how they (the Government)are dealing with these unprecedented fires. Voters are watching how the Provincial Government responds and continues supporting those who have lost their homes and livelihood. Voters are watching how the recovery process transpires when it reaches that point.
All the incredible work and dangers that the firefighters have faced and continues facing is truly awe inspiring. Thank You. There are so many front line workers that might not be mentioned but Thank You. I have read of workers that have been verbally abused because emotions are running high. For those of you, Thank You! Thank you for the MLA’s who are keeping their constituents up to date and informed. For the volunteers who help with ESS, the people that have been rescuing animals and livestock, Thank You all. So many people are involved and doing worthwhile jobs that we don’t hear about.
There are people who comment on Facebook feeds etc. that are downright rude. Be kind! No one knows what that person you are ostracizing is going through. It is much too easy for some to be cruel to someone they don’t know or they are not standing in front of. I have read so many comments of kindness and caring since starting this but I have also been disappointed on how cruel people can be in such an event.
I will be retiring this petition as of now. Thank you once again.
