Climate Change: Our Story, Our Future

The Issue

Consider the experience of obtaining consciousness while open floodwaters are rushing into one’s house. This is the brutal reality for a lot of people from the northern part of the Philippines. With typhoons becoming stronger and heat waves becoming too unbearable, coastal villages are at great risk of disappearing. Farmers are facing great challenges with droughts that continuously destroy crops which leads to food becoming expensive for everyone. Climate Change is not an issue that is of concern in the future, it is occurring at present and has the potential to damage our homes, health, and future in a catastrophic way.

Life as we know it is more than likely not to exist if we sit on our thumbs. A single threat is present, which goes by the name ‘Rising sea levels,’ and it has the potential to displace billions of people. The disappearance of food sources will lead to wars, forests will be destroyed, jobs will no longer be available, people will not have access to clean water, and so much more. Still there is a glimmer of hope, by switching to renewable options, safeguarding our environment, and encouraging everyone to join the movement, there will be a chance for a and inviting future. Changing the narrative is still has the capacity.

According to scientists, every single person on this planet has almost a decade to fix damage that needs to be worked on deep (IPCC, 2023). Looking at the choices we make today in relation with having an impact on what will be inherited by children, every single one of us should start pondering over whether we choose to act or not. The effort put in fighting for the future along with empowering the world to take action is what will shape the outcome.
