Tell Cleveland Foundation "NO"! Please don't buy Dunham Tavern Museum land.
The Issue
CLEVELAND FOUNDATION BOARD MEMBERS, PLEASE DO THE RIGHT THING! Please leave Dunham Tavern Museum property alone.
Cleveland Foundation is trying to buy land from the Dunham Tavern Museum (6709 Euclid Ave.; Cleveland, OH). The Cleveland Foundation should NOT buy Dunham Tavern Museum property.
Dunham Tavern is the oldest standing building (it was a stagecoach stop) in Cleveland and has been preserved as part of local history since the 1930s. In 2012 members spent $700,000 to buy an adjoining 2.3 acres, take down the 7-story vacant industrial building and restore it to greenspace, as part of the Dunham Farm’s original footprint.
For unclear reasons, the Cleveland Foundation is trying to buy this Dunham Tavern Museum greenspace and build a new headquarters there. The Cleveland Foundation has a $2.5 Billion endowment, so it can easily find a better, different location to build a new headquarters. Dunham Tavern's historic greenspace is a valuable community resource and amenity.
The Cleveland Foundation does wonderful things for our region and has a proud history, but nobody’s perfect, and the Cleveland Foundation Board was given some bad real estate advice--that they should not follow. The Cleveland Foundation should NOT buy Dunham Tavern Museum property.
Please help us. Please make a comment and sign this petition, encouraging Cleveland Foundation Board members to do the right thing
