SAVE WETLANDS & ANIMAL HABITATS from developments in Guelph >>78&82 Eastview Road

The Issue

I am a resident of Guelph . My family immigrated here many years ago . I grew up in Guelph , and love the greenery the city has offered . During my childhood years ,I enjoyed planting trees , and enjoyed all the amazing things trees, and wetlands have to offer  in Guelph .  Over the years it’s been very sad for me to notice that more ,and more trees are being cut by developers. As a result, animal homes are being destroyed . Developers from GTA ,and other areas  are coming, and purchasing lands. Initially these developers are promising that their developments will not affect animal habitats, and wetlands . During the course of their developments , more trees are cut in order to meet the needs of the developments . Developers are cutting down 500 trees when they initially agreed to cut 50. We need to stop this. We need to protect wetlands , and trees that take over half a decade to grow. Please sign my petition to bring more awareness in regards this development, and it’s major concerns  with city council .

In the month of January the residents of Starwood Drive ,and Eastview Roads residents received a notice from the City of Guelph in regards a proposal for a zoning for subject lands 78-82 Eastview Road. The property owner has revised their development concept ,and is now proposing to build 30 cluster townhouses as well as a five storey, 40-unit apartment building. The is currently a bungalow at 82 Eastview Rd.Two numbered companies are looking to have the 3.25-hectare parcel of land rezoned from “urban reserve” to a mix of “residential cluster townhouse,” “general apartment,” and “conservation land.”  Nearly 2.5 acres of the property is protected wetlands. My neighbours and ,I from Eastview Road ,and Starwood Drive are very concerned about this development . We feel that this development will bring negative impact to wetlands, animal habitat ,  tree canopy, parking , water infiltration, and density of site .  We also feel that this development has a net zero carbon development. The new proposed development has a road which would be backing up against the backyards of the residents of Starwood Drive . The residents are very concerned about the development of this road , and it’s safety components for those individuals who have young children we play on these backyards. We feel that the development of this road isn’t safe for young children , and would bring a lot of anxiety for parents . We encourage city counsel to encourage the developers to reconsider this road in a different location . Also ,the development has no mention of green space on their proposal.  Green space is important for children, families and communities . We feel that children need green space to play on otherwise children use roads as recreational  spots  to play on which can very dangerous . A development with 30 townhomes ,and a 5 story building with 40 units needs appropriate  amenities such as proper playgrounds, appropriate roads , and side walks  that allow safe passages for the elderly , people on wheelchairs , and young children . We advise counsel to  reconsider this proposal , and ask the developers to propose a plan that meets the needs of the community, protects wetland ,  limits parking , and minimizes traffic flow for an area that is  already congested by busy roads. We need a development that will serve the needs of future generations, preserve our wetlands that deliver us clean air , and shade during the hot summer days!
