Clemson Students Need More and Closer Parking

The Issue

Many of Clemson’s Students will tell you that parking is one of the biggest issues on campus, whether it be commuter parking or parking for students on campus. Many students will tell you that if they do find a spot that they most likely won’t take or move their car unless needed, because they don’t want to lose that spot. Clemson expects for Students who live on or off campus that if there is no immediate parking that we should park in designated off campus lots. The student to faculty ratio is about 202:55, yet the University continues to add faculty spots, that are closer or even right outside resident halls and class buildings. There are around 15 marked employee lots on campus, while residents get 5 lots on campus and commuters get 7 lots on campus. These student parking lots  on campus are still far and mostly on the outskirts of campus making it a trek from our cars to where we need to go and vice versa. We as students will end up paying or are currently paying tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars to be here, while faculty gets paid to be here. We all believe we need more accessible and/or better proximity for parking. This topic has be brought up many times by other students and the University won’t do anything to change it. They’d rather keep it the way it is and use Parking/Transportation Service to gain even more profit off us students by the use of meters and parking citations. There are so many solutions to this problem that the University won’t even consider, such as parking garages or just even adding more student spaces. We as students are tired of this and demand action be taken immediately.
