CLEMENCY PETITION FOR RICKEY BROWNLEE OUR FATHER, OUR FRIEND & OUR LOVED ONE
The Issue
The Honorable President Joseph R. Biden Jr.
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Ave, NW
Washington, DC 20500
Dear Mr. President,
It is a privilege for us who are family and friends of Rickey Brownlee to show our support for him by way of this petition. Mr. Brownlee who is a citizen of The United States of America, is presently serving a prison sentence that he was arrested for in January of 1998. He was later convicted in November of 1999 for violations of United States Criminal Codes that reference: Conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a detectable amount of heroin, cocaine and money laundering. For those crimes Mr. Brownlee has been incarcerated continuously from that day to this present day. We the family and friends of Mr. Brownlee derive from all walks of life -and are imperfect beings as is every human and have been granted second or more chances- who are either retired or honestly employed in various occupations. We know the seriousness of the crimes committed by Rickey Brownlee and their personal and socioeconomic impact and cost. We most certainly Mr. President, believe and hold Mr. Brownlee responsible for what he was charged and convicted of. We also hold the belief that a sentence that is adequate but not excessive, in relationship to the crime committed and the goals of both deterrence and rehabilitation should be the cost that Mr. Brownlee should pay. Respectfully Mr. President, we the family and friends of Mr. Rickey Brownlee wholeheartedly believe those goals after 27 years have been achieved. Mr. Brownlee was charged and convicted of serious, but non-violent crimes and sentenced to a term of mandatory life in prison. We the family and friends of Mr. Brownlee know-not of any crime, that minus violence as the essential element of the crime, that allows for a person to receive a mandatory life sentence without parole with the possible exception being espionage or treason; and respectfully Mr. President neither of those crime in any way apply in this matter. Mr. President, we and Mr. Brownlee want it to be known that he is greatly remorseful for his crimes and the man he was almost 27 years ago. Mr. Brownlee today is a rehabilitated man who is highly aware of his debts to society and prays for the opportunity by way of a sentence commutation in order to pay his debts and to be a positive contributor to society, which he is fully committed to being; and we his family and friends trust that he will be. Mr. President, we the family and friends of Rickey Brownlee will gladly and openly welcome him, support him, and afford him the necessary resources he needs to make the smoothest transition from prison to a positive member of society.
Mr. President, it is our solemn ask and hope that you will grant our father, brother, grandfather, cousin, godfather, friend and uncle a sentence commutation so that he can show that he is indeed a new man, pay his personal and societal debts and be reunited with us to spend his golden years after so many years of being imprisoned.
Sincerely & Wholeheartedly,
The family, friends & LOVED ONES of Mr. Rickey Brownlee
