Greetings, 

My name is Marquis Harrison. I am currently serving a 25yr sentence(outdate 7/2/2036) for a crime I committed as a juvenile. I have been incarcerated for 12 yrs now and I'm asking for support to seek a commutation of sentence or be eligible for parole after serving 15yrs. As of right now, I am forced to serve my entire sentence because of a law in Illinois called "Truth-in-sentencing". Truth-in-sentencing requires offenders to serve 85-100% of their sentence without the possibility of parole and regardless of what they may accomplish while in prison. I was charged with Felony-Murder which is impossible to beat because even if you didn't intend or intentionally kill someone you can still be found guilty of felony murder if you're found guilty of the underlying felony. 

Since being incarcerated, I have completed various programs such as obtained my G.E.D, Trauma Management, Drug Awareness program and I'm currently enrolled in Northwestern Prison Education Program(NPEP) which is the 1st and only Top 10 university to offer a Bachelor's degree to incarcerated people. I'm currently maintaining a 4.0 GPA and in 4yrs I will receive a Bachelor's from Northwestern University and an Associates from Oakton College. I take full responsibility for my actions which resulted in the death of Marcia Atkins(A mother, wife, daughter, aunt, sister, and cousin). I just ask for the opportunity to show my rehabilitation thru a clemency from the Governor of Illinois because due to the laws currently in Illinois I'm not afforded that opportunity.
