Petition to Address Lawful Boundaries of Presidential Immunity:

We do not seek to be ruled by kings, but to be governed by the clear and just laws of a true democracy—a government of the people, by the people, for the people. 

To: The Honorable Members of the United States Congress and the Supreme Court of the United States

We, the undersigned citizens of the United States, respectfully petition the United States Congress and the Supreme Court to address and clarify the application of "presidential immunity" and its clearly defined boundaries according to the Constitution, particularly in its application during the case of former President Donald J. Trump concerning the events of January 6th, 2021. We seek transparency, accountability, and the assurance of correct applicability of this legal doctrine to preserve the integrity of our democracy.

 

A. What We Want:

We ask for a clear explanation and proper use of the term "presidential immunity." We are not requesting a reversal of any specific decisions that may pardon former President Trump’s actions but rather seek to ensure the rule is applied correctly and fairly. Misuse of this law sets a dangerous precedent that can have long-lasting implications, allowing future leaders, regardless of affiliation, to misuse this and other constitutional laws as they and their constituents see fit.

 

B. Why This Matters:

 

1. Understanding Presidential Immunity:
   - Presidential immunity is meant to protect a sitting president from civil lawsuits related to their official duties. However, it should not shield a president from criminal liability or unlawful actions. 

2. Transparency and Fairness:
   - As citizens, we are entitled to full transparency and understanding of the laws and rulings that govern our leaders. We need clear explanations from our leaders and the Supreme Court regarding the application of presidential/absolute immunity in former President Trump's hearings. 

3. Ensuring Accountability:
   - It is crucial that this rule is not misused to protect any president from being held accountable for illegal activities. If any rulings have misapplied this principle, we seek their immediate reversal to maintain justice and balance. 

4. What We Are Asking For:
   - We urge Congress to pass legislation that clearly defines the limits of presidential/absolute immunity, ensuring it cannot be misused to protect illegal actions.
   - We call upon the Supreme Court to provide clear guidance on the application of presidential immunity and ensure its correct use, explaining their decisions transparently to the American people. 

 

C. Our Message: 

By signing this petition, we affirm our commitment to the rule of law and the preservation of democratic governance. We urge our leaders to make sure that no president can use "presidential immunity" to avoid punishment for illegal actions and to ensure that our laws are clear and just for everyone. 

Together, we can ensure that the principles of our democracy are upheld and that no individual, regardless of position, is above the law.
