The Pronghorn Antelope

Antilocapra Americana

A horrible thing has happened! The gorgeous species of pronghorns have experienced a historic decline. and all because pronghorns follow the same migration route to their winter grazing areas and summer breeding grounds decade after decade, recently these places are being disrupted by roads, cities, fences, and energy development these fragmentations create obstacles threatening the pronghorn's ability to return to there yearly routes and in the process threatening the breathtaking pronghorns themselves and putting them straight on the endangered list!

Pronghorn are found only in North America. Their natural range extended from southern Canada to northern Mexico. Today pronghorn are mainly found in the United States in the Great Plains, Wyoming, Montana, northeast California, southeast Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico.

Pronghorn have the body shape of a deer with long legs, short tails, and long snouts. Their fur is a reddish-brown color but it can also be tan or darker brown. pronghorns have white stripes on their necks and additional white markings on the face, stomach, and rump. Their habitat is mainly open plains, fields, grasslands, brush deserts, and basins which provide them with a herbivore diet of grasses, forbs, sagebrush, and more.

Pronghorns are very valid parts of the earth's ecosystem. They serve as an umbrella species for conserving sagebrush- grasslands. They are also a food source for bears, wolves, cougars, coyotes, and even eagles meaning that losing the pronghorns would affect multiple species.

Pronghorn are on the least concerned list of endangered species. But if we keep blocking their paths they will not be on that list for much longer. But there is a bright side to all of this we may be able to stop this before it gets out of hand! individuals can help by working to become politically active in the campaign to protect the habitat of the pronghorn from off-road vehicle use and other harmful border patrol activities.

Help save the simply wonderful species of pronghorn and sign my petition now!
