The Issue
In or around 2002, this lake was cleared out, a pier was built and it was stocked with bluegill, crappie, channel catfish and largemouth bass. There were even fish feeders and it was a nice place for families to go or children in the area to fish. The lake is now unreachable and probably uninhabitable by fish due to the overgrown vegetation. It doesn’t even look like a lake anymore; it looks like it’s completely filled in with grass. No one would even know there is water underneath and at one time, some nice fish. Along the water’s edge is all dry with no water because the plants are sucking up all of the water. You never see kids or families at the pier anymore. The cleanup effort and money spent to build the pier and stock the pond was a waste if no one keeps the vegetation cleared out. The pond serves no purpose anymore other than to be an eyesore and breeding ground for bugs. We would like for the City to do something about this problem and restore Bobby Hicks pond to the family fishing recreation spot that it once was.
