Barry's beautiful beaches are under threat due to the repeated dumping of sewage by water companies, compromising the safety and cleanliness of the waters. These beaches, which are a cherished part of our community, are meant to be places where families, tourists, and local residents can enjoy swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking, and other water activities without worrying about pollution.

Unfortunately, the current situation forces us to constantly check apps for water quality updates before we can enjoy these natural resources safely. Not only does this undermine the enjoyment of our beaches, but it also poses serious risks to local wildlife and the health of those who venture into the waters, including our beloved pets.

In addition to the water pollution, there is an urgent need for improved safety measures, such as safe lighting along The Knap and the surrounding gardens during the winter months. This will not only ensure safer environments for leisure activities but also contribute positively to mental health, in line with Blue Mind theory which supports the cognitive and emotional benefits of being close to water bodies.

We urge our local councillors to take immediate action. This includes pressuring water companies to halt the discharge of sewage into our precious waters and implementing infrastructure improvements for public safety.
