Clean our Communities

Clean our Communities
The Issue
The amount of trash piling up around our Shreveport communities is growing every day. This lowers the morale of the people who live in the community, and could lead to other issues. The trash could attract unwanted animals such as mice and other rodents which could attract snakes, some venomous. These animals could pose a threat to the people who live in the communities. Also, rotting trash creates a breeding ground for potentially harmful bacteria that could make people sick or worse kill them. Everyone who lives in the community could get sick, or attacked by these pests. Another issue that could pose a threat to the people who live in these communities are the horrible smells of the trash. This could cause the residents to experience headaches, nausea, stomach and breathing problems. If left untreated these minor illnesses could lead to health issues like pneumonia, respiratory infections, and chronic diseases like bronchitis. The trash is not only disgusting but lowers the value of property, gives the community a bad name, and makes it an unpleasant place for people to live, work, or shop. Some small businesses depend on this revenue to provide for their families. The sight and smell of trash also lowers the sense of pride a person would have for their community. Everyone should be proud of the community they are a part of, and should want people to visit and be a part of the community in some way. It doesn't take much to do your part and clean up the community. If you see a piece of trash while walking your dog, going for a job, pick it up and throw it away. There are plenty of dumpsters scattered throughout every community. If you see a dumpster that is overflowing, don't keep adding to it or leaving your trash on the ground thinking someone else will pick it up. Everyone has a responsibility to pick up after themselves and help keep our communities clean and welcoming for everyone that visits. Our communities should be a reflection of the people who live in them. They should be a part of who we are and we should be proud to be a part of it. We should keep our communities looking inviting for businesses outside of the community. These businesses are looking for a place to sell their products because they will create new jobs, add value, and give a bigger sense of pride overall. It doesn't take much to grow as a community and everyone has the opportunity to benefit from the rewards. It all starts with that one piece of trash in your hand, or that piece of trash sitting off to the side of the street. Go over and pick it up, throw it away in the nearest dumpster that isn't overflowing. Our communities should not miss out on any opportunity that may come its way. Give everyone a chance to be a better person, to make our communities strong, and grow with pride and joy.
