The Issue

No parent should have to worry about whether their child has access to a clean bathroom, toilet paper, or soap during the school day.

At Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor K–8 Center, parents are concerned about the consistently poor condition of the student bathrooms. Bathrooms are frequently dirty, inadequately maintained throughout the day, and may lack basic supplies such as toilet paper and soap.

This is not simply a matter of comfort.

When a child uses a dirty bathroom and cannot properly wash their hands afterward because soap is unavailable, it creates an avoidable hygiene concern. Bathrooms are high-touch environments, and inadequate cleaning and handwashing can contribute to the spread of germs among students.

Children should not feel that they need to avoid using the bathroom, hold it for long periods, or return to class without being able to properly wash their hands.

Our children spend most of their day at school. They deserve bathroom facilities that protect their health, hygiene, dignity, and well-being.

What We Are Asking For:

We respectfully ask the school administration and Miami-Dade County Public Schools to take concrete action by:

Establishing a reliable system to monitor and clean student bathrooms throughout the school day, either through a regular inspection and cleaning process or by assigning dedicated personnel responsible for bathroom conditions.

Ensuring that toilet paper and soap are consistently available in all student bathrooms.

Implementing practical solutions to reduce misuse or waste of supplies, such as secure dispensers, controlled-dispensing systems, or placing toilet paper dispensers in a monitored area immediately outside the bathrooms.

Installing secure and durable soap dispensers so children can always wash their hands properly.

Approving the necessary funding for these improvements or, when appropriate, authorizing the PTA to fund approved dispensers or related solutions.

Why Your Signature Matters

This is a basic issue that affects every child who uses these facilities.

A clean and properly supplied bathroom should not be considered an extra or a privilege. It is a basic part of providing children with a safe and healthy school environment.

By signing this petition, we are asking the school and District to work with parents and the PTA to find practical, sustainable solutions and ensure that every student at Ruth K. Broad has access to a bathroom that is clean, sanitary, monitored, and properly supplied throughout the school day.

Please add your name and help us make this a priority for our children.
