Killing 50 Dogs in One Day is Unacceptable! Develop A Strong Foster Pet Program, Change Policy for ALL Shelter Animals, and Help the Rescues Do Their Jobs Finding Homes for the Animals!

The Issue

On June 1, 2015 Clayton County Animal Control in Jonesboro GA, after asking community members on Facebook the month of May to help adopt dogs because the shelter was full, took 50 animals and euthanized them. Clayton County Animal Control even took the mother of three day old puppies and killed her as well.

Do you feel 50 animals killed in one day was "overkill"? I believe those 50 animals deserved a better chance at life than that.

This petition is very emotional in that most of those dogs could have been placed in foster homes, money could have been given to rescues to help with daily expenses, and the mother of those puppies could have gotten over her protective instinct and not been afraid that her puppies were going to be harmed (yes, she tried to bite when someone tried to take the puppies away from her).

The Councilmen of Jonesboro, GA have a responsibility to help ALL community members, not just humans. Albert Einstein said so succinctly, "The world is a dangerous place not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing." Where were you City Council when the animals, whose only fault was being born, died that day because your shelter is not set up as a NO-KILL animal friendly program.

Animal Control Unit, overseen by Cpt. Andre Jackson (phone: 1-770-477-3509) website reads "...animals are treated with dignity and respect." June 1, 2015 - 50 killed in one day; Animal Control Policy reports a bite from an animal renders the animal unadoptable (mother of puppies died protecting her babies); Animal Control Policy also points out that it picks up animals that have been part of severe mistreatment to "mere neglect" - WHEN is ANY form of neglect marginalized as "MERE" Clayton County Animal Control/Animal Control Unit/Jonesboro Councilmen/Mayor Joy Brantley Day?? Clayton County Animal Control reports "...we have a very strong working relationship with pet rescue groups and Clayton County Humane Society in our attempts to reduce euthanasia..." (50 dogs killed in one day June 1, 2015).

Please contact Jonesboro Councilmen and Mayor Day to express your concerns and the corrections you want to see so Clayton County Animal Control can CHANGE and become a safe shelter for animals, not a shelter that repeats June 1, 2015 Jonesboro GA Day of Shame.
