Clayton High School Seniors’ Online Classes to Only Help Students
The Issue
This pandemic has taken away a lot from the student body at Clayton High School. Those hit the hardest are the seniors, class of 2020. We never knew it was our last day in class before spring break. We are missing out on prom, senior skip day, senior prank, senior send off, our last season of spring sports, awards ceremonies, a normal graduation, and so much more. We no longer have the ability to go to school with our friends, and learn with our favorite teachers. We have completed the majority of this year, and with all of the stress and loss we are already dealing with, we are asking to adapt the grading system for the rest of the year so that work can only improve grades. We have worked hard for our current grades in school, and therefore it is logical that they represent our understanding of the course material. This is not a normal time, and it does not warrant more busy work from classes to add unnecessary stress to our already disappointing days locked at home. We are already struggling with the fact that not only are we missing out on important milestones, fun activities, seeing our peers and teachers everyday, but we are also worried about our loved ones’ health and safety, and do not need the added stress of daily work. Ivy League colleges are adapting their grading system due to this pandemic, and it only makes sense that we do, too. This system will allow students to improve their grades if needed, and will remove the penalty for those who do not.
