I write this petition out of a deep concern for the fractious environment in which we find ourselves, primarily caused by groups such as the English Defence League (EDL). The EDL, rather than fostering unity, is propagating divisions among communities throughout the country. It is fear and uncertainty that they sow, fostering discord amongst diverse communities.

Their propagation of misinformation and false narratives serves only to heighten animosity in our society. Regrettably, what we see is a direct involvement of EDL in the current tumultuous events. The status they enjoy only serves to legitimise their divisive ideologies; classifying EDL as a terrorist organization could help counteract this. Terrorism is broadly defined as the use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims. Given EDL's activities, there is a case to be made for their classification as such.

We must remember that the unity and harmony among our communities is paramount and should not be compromised by such influences. Recognition of the EDL as a terrorist organisation is a crucial step towards this concerted effort. I urge you, for the peace and unity of this nation, to sign this petition.
