In-person Graduation for Class of 2020 & 2021
The Issue
As some of you may know, the class of 2020 had their graduation ceremony cancelled due to the uprising cases of COVID-19. Fast Forward to December 2020-Januray 2021, it was officially declared that neither will class of 2021 will have a graduation commencement. Recently, 25,000 people were found roaming the streets in Tampa, FL celebrating the end results of the Super Bowl WITHOUT masks. If the state with the MOST COVID cases in the country could hold such event, Why can't UMass Dartmouth, A college located in a state where we clearly have everything under control hold a graduation ceremony safely. Today, the governor of Massachusetts has stated that kids from K-12 will be back into classes 5 days a week in the beginning April. If protocol is followed with the commencement located outdoors, along with social distancing seating and masks being worn. I truly believe the Class of 2020 and 2021 can hold a formal graduation ceremony. These ceremonies could be on different days, times and each school could be celebrated during allotted times/days allowing for this event to occur. We as a country already know so much about this virus that vaccines have been distributed and given to more people than those who have contracted the virus. The Class of 2020 and 2021 DESERVE A FORMAL GRADUATION CEREMONY.
