The Issue

Considering the health and financial benefits of fresh eggs from your own small flock of backyard chickens, we are asking the Clarksville Town Council to pass the proposed ordinance of allowing homeowners to keep  backyard chickens. Fresh eggs not only taste better but are scientifically proven to be healthier for you.How is it we can keep aniamls that could hurt people but a chicken is outlawed? Chickens are proven to be waste reducers and in Europe one city even distributed them to citizens as a waste reduction Chicken keeping in many cities and towns across the country have become a huge success, bringing neighborhoods together and showing the people opposed to it that their fears were unfounded. Indianapolis is the largest city in Indiana and allows chickens. Across the river in Louisville Ky they allow them as well. Floyd County and New albany both allow Chickens. The Clarksville Tractor Supply store as well as Rural king all sell chicks and supplies. We have a 4H fair and a 4H group in Clarksville which could have more members if we allow back yard hens. Please sign this petition and tell the commissioners that you and / or your neighbors have the right to provide your family with fresh and healthier food that you grew at home.It should be every person's right to raise their own food in their backyard and chickens could be a vital part of making that possible...
