STOP City of Sharon Forcing Refuse Services

This petition had 38 supporters

The City of Sharon, Pennsylvania is now forcing its property owners with standing structures to pay for refuse (garbage) service pickup.  This was enforced as a city ordinance after several property owners failed to properly dispose of trash on their own properties.  As a result, all property owners with structures are being forced to have curb refuse service with Tri-County Industries.  The ordinance reads that "owners are required to provide garbage service".  When I called Tri-County to subscribe to their lowest-cost plan (sticker bags) - I was informed that because I owned a vacant home - the ordinance agreement stipulates that I must pay the HIGHEST cost service (tote service) because it is considered a rental property (just because I, the owner, do not reside there).  Its time the City of Sharon focuses on assigning penalties and citations to those in direct violation and cease putting their hands in the pockets of diligent property owners.  Property owners in the City of Sharon already pay premium property taxes in a decaying city full of blight and economic constraint - those of us with vacant, unrented but maintenanced properties should not be forced to pick up the costs associated with the city's inability to enforce jurisdiction on the actual offenders.  The purpose of this petition is to reverse this decision to enforce refuse pickup for property owners who can attest (and/or prove) they have unrented structures that produce no waste warranting such services.
