prevent the destruction

The Issue

The two Maple trees on the corner of Main and Prince Street are symbols of Whitewater through their beauty and endurance. The trees tower over Whitewater; their beauty seen and often looked forward to by residents and visitors. Students and residents of Whitewater look forward to the trees changing colors in the fall, their leaves seemingly the first to change colors and the last to drop. The destruction of these two trees for the expansion of this university is damaging, not only to the image of Whitewater but also to the students and residents who feel a connection to the trees. According to the City of Whitewater website, Whitewater is a part of Tree City USA, which is a program dedicated to greening communities around the United States. To remove these beautiful and significant trees is not only a disaster to the community and the environment, but also contradictory to what this city stands for. Sign this petition to call for the protection of these two significant trees, or contact the private property owner Ryan Hughes directly at his email (warhawkcountry@gmail.com)
