Stop the destruction of Turtle Woods Preserve in Michigan

The Issue

The Turtle Woods Preserve is an 80 area acre plot of land located in Troy Michigan that is home to endangered turtles, ancient amphibians, native grasses, and flowers where glaciers last melted. These woods are in danger of development that will destroy 7 acres of land and can further cause detrimental effects on the forest and neighboring ecosystems. According to Urban Forest Network "one acre of new forest can sequester about 2.5 tons of carbon annually." That is potentially 17.5 tons of carbon that will no longer be absorbed.

Not only is the Turtle Woods Preserve necessary for the well-being of Troy's ecosystems, but it is a dear plot of land for many people within Troy. Taking away acres of this forest would be doing an injustice to the people who frequent them.
