Orbit buses have been providing free, local transportation in the City of Tempe since 1996. Many residents depend on these buses to access basic social services, like shelter, food, showers and health care. We hope to keep it this way.

The City of Tempe has proposed to start charging fares of $0.50 -$1.75 for these buses. We oppose ANY fare on these buses.

Orbit buses offer the only free mass transit in the city. Fares on these routes would effectively exclude people who are homeless or on fixed income. This puts an unfair burden on people who have low income, increases their immobility and isolation, and deprives them of access to basic human services.

Balancing the city budget should not come at the expense of Tempe’s most vulnerable residents.
