The City of Taylorville is submitting a 2024 application for funding through the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP) administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) for the purpose of enhancing the transportation system through preservation of visual and cultural resources and improving the quality of life for members of the Taylorville community. 

Proposed improvements to the downtown area will make it more accessible to and enhance the safety of all citizens and visitors of Taylorville.  The proposed improvements include:

• ADA access to all commercial properties
• Pedestrian friendly streetscapes encouraging visitors to spend time in the commercial area
• Bicycle racks encouraging alternative type transportation to the commercial area
• Benches allowing visitors to rest and congregate
• Improved lighting in the pedestrian and vehicle travel corridors
• Provide defined, high visibility, pedestrian crosswalks
