Stop Mast Blvd from becoming a Freeway
Mast blvd between Carlton Hills Blvd and Cuyamaca St has become a freeway with speeds up to 75+ mph. The majority of cars driving in excess of 50 miles per hour along this residential frontage.
This has already been reported to the traffic engineers and their response is that they go off of traffic studies and base speed limits off of how fast the average vehicle drives along that road. After checking with state departments, we've confirmed that the guidelines provided are typically not for residential areas such as this corridor and it is the responsibility of local planning to make the decision on what is safe for the area.
The negligence the planning department has for this section of Santee is leading to unsafe conditions for families not only that live on this road but commute along this "freeway". With the continued development of the area it will only get worse.
This petition is to push policymakers to take action in slowing down traffic along residential roads like mast blvd; especially between areas with no commercial zoning and where homeowners' front doors face the street.
By reducing the speed limit and adding additional signage or speed traps to prevent speeding, you can help increase the safety of your community on these neighborhood roads.
