Santa Clara needs a moratorium on repurposing of any open space in Santa Clara, including neighborhood parks, until the Youth Soccer Park and general soccer field shortage issues are resolved to the satisfaction of the soccer community.

Santa Clara leadership has publicly stated that there is a need for an additional 100 acres of new park land, of which 30 acres would be dedicated to sports, and about one third of that for soccer.  That means the 70 additional acres should be dedicated to neighborhood parks for public use, not permitted for sports teams.

Spending city funds to repurpose a neighborhood park into a sports field decreases neighborhood park acreage resulting in a zero net gain of open space for the residents of Santa Clara.

We could use your support to urge the Santa Clara City Council to cease any plans to repurpose Santa Clara open space, including neighborhood parks, and encourage them to buy new land using developer fees should they wish to add sports fields and or facilities to Santa Clara.
