A tweet was sent on Monday, June 1st from the Salem PD twitter account that stated, "@marty_walsh so you issued a permit for 10 of thousands of people to protest but I can't go to a restaurant? You are ridiculous. You and Too Tall Deval are killing this State." This now-deleted tweet was sent by Kate Stephens who is the head of Professional Standards of the Salem Police Department. Stephens was put on paid leave. Paid leave is unacceptable considering Stephens' income, which according to the 2018 GovSalaries is $139,352, and has likely increased since then. Mayor Kim Driscoll and the Salem Police Department need to hold Stephens accountable for her actions, she should be fired or put on leave with NO PAY. This racist tweet is tone-deaf and reflects Salem PD's outdated thoughts on the Black Lives Matter movement. We are ashamed of Stephens and Salem PD for this tweet.
