There are plenty of talented spray paint artists in Orlando, we should have our own wall!

The Issue

Orlando and its surrounding areas has been blessed with an amazing art scene for years, even implementing its urban style into the Mills 50 district along with many local shops. I strongly believe that if the City of Orlando or a surrounding area gave us artists one or two walls to practice, we would be able to make much more out of this art that some consider taboo. Now, before you go ahead thinking that it's all graffiti, which you have every right to think as it is certainly a tool for vandalism, you must also recognize that spray paint is a tool for art that many other types of mediums for art simply cannot mimic.

Many artists in Orlando make a living off of painting local shops with permission, and it even becomes the poster of their shop; it becomes the reason as to why customers keep going back. I have been an aerosol artist for years, and I do not "tag" or "vandalize." What I do is make people smile, I make people feel, and I make people say "wow, that's pretty amazing" and I am not alone in that blessing. I have met artists at either art shows or events that all are beyond talented, yet we all agree on one thing: Orlando should have a designated paint wall for spray paint artists. We should have a place to turn to so that we can practice our craft, like baseball players have fields and like dogs have their own parks. I truly believe that not only will having one or two designated walls in Orlando will greatly increase the strength of our local art community (because we have many more spray paint artists than one may think) but it will also bring down vandalism rates. Towns in California, Massachusetts, New York, and many other states have these walls, and it's simple: people tend to go to a place to spray paint that they're allowed to rather than a privately owned wall.

To wrap this up, I am asking for help for the local art community to get our wall, a place where we can practice our trade freely, increase our talent, and most of all boost our skills to make this city more beautiful than it already is! Graffiti is shunned upon by most, but if people look at what someone can do with a simple aerosol can, it can change your mind. We will be responsible, give it monthly coats of paint to keep things fresh, maintain the premises, and make sure nothing illegal goes on at this wall....we just need a place to practice.
