Homelessness is ruining Olympia, WA. Homelessness is legal and accepted in our town. It is degrading our beautiful city with trash, feces, needles, open drug deals, etc. people with severe mental health issues are roaming the streets and scaring our children.

Robberies, car break-ins etc. are on a huge rise recently in large part due to the growing homeless population. We need our voices to be loud if we want this to stop. Seattle is cleaning up their town and lots of the homeless people are moving down to Olympia due to the lax laws and ample resources. 

Sign this petition to let our local city officials know we the people of Olympia want the following changes:

1. Make homelessness illegal in the downtown area and near businesses. Sleeping on sidewalks and on the street needs to be banned. Setting up tents in neighborhoods and parks needs to be banned. Small businesses downtown are losing customers due to the homeless invading our city. 

2. Since shelters were closed down due to COVID, open designated outdoor shelters and provide assistance to get these folks off the street. Require the homeless to live in these designated shelter areas. 

3. Have a psychiatrist conduct mental health assessments on those with suspected mental health issues and get them access medication and into a hospital or mental institution where they belong. It is sad they are out there fending for themselves. Society is failing them. 

4. Provide resources to get homeless folks jobs and affordable housing. For those who choose to be homeless and don’t want help, make sure they are brought back to the designated shelter. 

5. Finally - take care of the open drug use and drug deals. Homeless folks are openly shooting up on the streets and leaving needles where our children play. This is unacceptable and they need access to rehab or jail, it is their decision.
