Hi All, Below is the link for the Solar Carport Survey. I hope that you will take the time to have everyone in your household Vote for OPTION E - Relocate to Hamilton Pool Upper Parking Lot. New people at the last meeting brought up some excellent ideas. 1. Can we reduce the energy use for the pool since it is only open 4 months out of the year? Answer: Public works will look into that. 2. If we put the solar carport at the upper pool parking lot, can additional solar be put in the upper lot and feed energy into the grid? Answer: Yes. The solar carport as it exists is only for the pool pumps and doesn't supply any extra energy. 3. The Solar Feasibility Study (page 7) states that these solar sites require security systems for vandalism. The Novato Unified School District is also putting in cameras and motion detector lights on their solar carports. 4. The solar panels would definitely be damaged if hit by a baseball, according to the representative from Optony solar consultant. 5. The city staff restated that they were not required to notify neighbors within 600 feet. 6. The city staff said that the public notice that they provided was legal. In other words, they did not have to state that the structure was going to be placed in South Hamilton Park because the park is part of the legal parcel of the Hamilton Pool on El Bonito Drive (according to the city staff.) 7. The solar consultant and the city confirmed that there are no other solar carport structures placed in a residential neighborhood in Novato. Sustainable Novato has written a letter of support for the solar carport to remain in the same location. Because Community Development Director Bob Brown is a member of the Sustainable Marin network, is this a conflict of interest? You can see that letter on their website. Mr. Brown designated the structure as an "accessory" which allowed it to be present in our neighborhood without notification to neighbors within 600 feet. There is a considerable amount of effort by the city to keep the solar carport in the current location. 1. Survey doesn't include con arguments to some of the scenarios that came out of the public engagement meetings. 2. Drawings of proposed trees are misleading and inaccurate. 3. The survey has been opened to all of Novato--to people who do not know the facts about how the solar carport was dropped in a residential neighborhood. If you have any questions about the pros and cons of any of the options, please feel free to email me. toruiz@yahoo.com There is also a Facebook page which has links to articles and materials. "No Solar Carport at South Hamilton Park." Thanks for your continued support on this issue. Please inform your friends and neighbors throughout Novato. -Tracey Tracey Ruiz toruiz@yahoo.com
