Solar Carport Community Meeting Wednesday, April 6 Hamilton Community Center - 503 Palm Drive (across from Beso and next to the Dance Center Time: TBD There will be another community meeting with an update on the various options that the city has come up with regarding the solar carport. Here is the message from Felicia Newhouse, with the City of Novato. "Please tell your fellow Hamilton neighbors about this opportunity to discuss proposed alternatives including design enhancements for the existing carport, a review of site selection, and cost analyses of removal and/or relocation." There is not a time listed in the email. The City says that information will be posted on NextDoor, the HOA, and Hamilton Forum. This is an important meeting that will influence the direction of the solar carport issue. I spoke at the March 29 City Council meeting and said that I had looked through every city document and there had been no mention of South Hamilton Park as the location of the carport. All public notices inaccurately listed Hamilton Pool as the location, including the build contract. The reason the pool site was not selected was that the solar carport was deemed detrimental to the sale of the old Bachelor's Office Quarters. That property has had park restrictions removed so that it can now be sold. Our goal is to have this structure relocated to one of the other considered sites: The City of Novato Corporation Yard where city vehicles and equipment are housed. We propose that the recent developer fees from the sale of Hamilton properties be used to relocate the structure or that the interest from the Hamilton Trust be used. The Hamilton Trust is a permanent trust created by the developer that generates about $300,000 annually. Some of it is being used to fund the Downtown SMART station. I spoke out against this use at a city council meeting. It is important that we have a strong "Relocate the Solar Carport" group at this meeting. Thank you and I'll keep you posted of the time.
