I received a returned voicemail message from Russ Thompson, Novato Public Works. He says that they don't have a date yet when this issue will be brought before the Novato City Council. He said that they are still working on options and a public outreach schedule. On Wednesday, March 9 at 7 p.m., Russ Thompson will be speaking at the Hamilton Forum at the Novato Arts Center War Room at 500 Palm Drive. The solar carport is one of the update items. Councilman Josh Fryday will be at Marin Coffee Roasters on Saturday, February 27 from 12-2 p.m. If you can, please stop by and speak to him and ask him to keep an open mind to the residents opposition to the solar carport. It is an issue of improper notification the community. Also, developers financial interests in the city's properties were put ahead of the residents. In talking with the Novato Unified School District about their proposed solar, I found out that these structures attract graffiti. Also, it creates a darkened parking lot at night, once the panels are installed. Bad things can happen in a darkened parking lot and the city's option to install trees to reduce the view of the solar carport would add to creating an unsafe situation. I will keep you posted.
