President of Chelsea Gardens, Hugh Schnip goes on with his pal and Chelsea Gardens fan Stu Bryer on WICH Radio Wednesday. Stu was sure to screen calls to limit the amount of tough questions and moved the start time back an hour to help pack the lines with their pre-screened friendly questioners. Allowing the gushing-complimenters to go on for what seemed like hours and either did not pick up unknown numbers off his caller ID or cut questioners off when they appeared hostile. Still this bombshell makes it through and NO ONE SEEMS TO WANT TO COVER IT, wonder why?
Mr. Schnip admitted yesterday on WICH's Stu Bryer Show that what he told reporters from both the Norwich Bulletin and the New London Day about visitor projections were "taken" from ATTENDANCE RECORDS OF THE DEERFIELD MASSACHUSETTS BUTTERFLY GARDENS? MEANING HE USED ANOTHER ESTABLISHED GARDENS IN THE SAME TOWN AS YANKEE CANDLE CORPORATION (one of the largest tourist attractions in New England) AS BEING REPRESENTATIVE OF THEIR OWN CHELSEA GARDENS VISTOR EXPECTATIONS?!? SERIOUSLY, HOW IS THIS NOT NEWS?!? What is in it for the both papers not to cover such an egregious fabrication of such an unbelievable story and excuse?
But then Mr. Schnip proclaims, "they have a photo up that is not Mohegan Park" on their facebook page, and STOP THE PRESSES! How come it is left up to us to find out this information and share it with the constituents of Norwich, isn't that your job? We stand by every fact and figure and PICTURE ON THIS SITE AS BEING GENUINE AND FACTUAL.

Were it not for us, would the people of Norwich know the fact that Chelsea Gardens was created by the CITY OF NORWICH, who then resolved to write themselves the most generous $10, 100 year 90 acre lease ever constructed, without limits to what can be done with our land and without input from the owners of the land, all within months of it creation? No.
The accepted falsehood would still be that this project had long and deep levels of Voter review, discussion and acceptance around it. But it did not, it was created in June of 93 and the lease was resolved for approval by Oct of 93. Not a single constituent was "privy" to this nightmare, just our glorious leaders who know what is best for us, taking care of business, their business.
We do not need to wait for your opinion piece to come out to find out what side of the debate the Bulletin is on. Your selective coverage of only mildest issues associated with the Chelsea Gardens speaks volumes. You intentionally leave the truly condemning material on the cutting room floor. Tell Mr.Schnip we say hi.
