Stop Chelsea Gardens Deforesation of Mohegan Park

The Issue

Chelsea Gardens is large scale deforestation project that was not properly presented for consideration to the voters of the city of Norwich.

Please join us on www.Facebook.com/SaveMoheganPark for daily updates.

The foundation known as Chelsea Gardens was created by the City Council of Norwich in June of 1993.  The City Council of Norwich then directed themselves to work out a lease with the Non-Profit Organization that they had just created.  A resolution designed to develop an incredibly generous lease for a private corporation that was created for them, by them.  There are essentially NO restrictions on the lease and NO oversight from the town according to the City Council.

This project known as Chelsea Gardens was created and developed with the direct support and monies from the City of Norwich Treasury as referenced by records released by the city.  The true and devastating effect this project will have on the last natural refuge in our city, will last forever.  The City of Norwich has plenty of other vacant and dilapidated sites in desperate need revitalization from a project like this.  Why destroy the last serene natural setting the city has to offer, when it would be welcome at any of the other dozens of vacant lots already cleared.  If this project is to fail we will be left with another self imposed embarrassing scar on the City of Norwich.

We insist that the voters of the city of Norwich have the opportunity to review this multimillion dollar project and understand its full impact on our city, including economic and ecological justification and implications and are then allowed to vote on the project once the details are clear. This will substantiate that the land of the city of Norwich belongs to the people of Norwich and not to the small group of elected officials.
