Restore Jazzland Theme Park instead of outlet mall proposal.

The City of New Orleans needs more family entertainment venues and attractions. The Jazzland Theme Park proposal, submitted by The Paidia Company, offers the most realistic option for redeveloping the former Six Flags site as it would re-use most of the existing infrastructure. This proposal for Jazzland includes locally owned businesses, is working with area youth organizations to offer internship programs and art & music education programs at the park, and would not require a TIF since it has the financial backing of local business leaders. The theme park would be open year-round, it would generate at least 600 jobs, with an additional 1000 seasonal workers. Jazzland could be open again by 2013, with the new water park opening in 2014. The planned movie studio back lot has its first tenant lined up and ready to move in immediately, and the facility should start attracting new film projects to the city right away. This plan does not cost the taxpayers any money, rather, the proposed lease terms would remove the burden of the City's existing HUD note payment.
